Janet Dietz Spann, 97, widow of Norwood Edwin Spann, passed away Tuesday, March 22, 2022, at National Healthcare of Sumter.
Born in Mechanicsburg, PA, she was the daughter of the late George Christian Dietz and Mary Barnhart Dietz.
Mrs. Spann was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church where her past services included Pianist for Sunday School, Children’s Sunday School Teacher and Children’s Choir Director. She was a graduate of Lebanon Valley College, PA, with a BS degree in Music Education. Having taught private piano lessons for more than seventy years, she shared her joy of music with many students of all ages. Additional past services include PTA President at Mayewood School, President of Sumter Piano Teachers Association, Member of the Ladies Afternoon Music Club and Adjudicator for National Federation of Music Clubs and National Guild of Piano Teachers.
Surviving are a son, Robert Edwin Spann (Daphne) of Orem, UT; three daughters, Susan S. Trautsch (Alfred) of Sumter; Marcia S. Boettcher (Jon) of Waynesville, NC and Darlene S. Thrift (Philip) of High Point, NC; 11 grandchildren, Danya Paxman (Bob), Dacia Gray (Jason), Devin Spann (Heidi), Derek Spann, Denika Spann, Patricia Hiott (Brent), Michael Trautsch (Kristine), Aaron Boettcher (Melanie), Matthew Boettcher, Stephen Thrift, Stuart Thrift (Sage), and 17 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, March 27 at Trinity United Methodist Church with Rev. Joseph James officiating.
Burial will be in the Sumter Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Karl Dietz, Eric Dietz, Wesley Spann, Marshall Spann, Ryan Spann and Cliff Spann.
The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 p.m. in the church parlor prior to the service.
