Sonny Hurst and Russell are two of the great memories that we have of our time while stationed at Shaw AFB in 1967-1969. As newlyweds we bought our furniture from them for our base housing. They were both such a pleasure to buy from and were why we kept coming back. Our sincere condolences for your loss. Sincerely, John and Sandra Riddle, Apison, TN.

To say that i am the luckiest daughter-in-law would be an understatement. i am blessed to be married into your family unit with you as our patriarch. You exemplified a Christ-like attitude and lived your life the way we can only hope to mimic. We all admire your devotion to mom and the way you cared for your family. You suffered in silence and put everyone's needs before your own. i will always remember your love for dancing, nuts and cheese and the way you wrapped our afternoon toddies with a paper towel napkin.
I married your first born who is a lot like you, the Southern gentleman and always making the ladies feel adored and on a pedestal. I thank God that i was allowed to call you dad. You will rest in my heart forever.

My condolences to the Hurst family. Having lived in Sumter from 1973-2003, I was a member at Trinity UMC and got to know Sonny and the family. I remember Sonny as a kind and gentle person.

To my grandmother, father and uncles,
I am so sorry for your loss and our loss. Junda/ Sonny was the best grandfather to me and the best father and husband. He was truly a southern gentleman and had a heart of gold. So many fond memories that we all had, I will never forget. I know there will be many hard days ahead without him here, but the heavens have gained another angel. We love you,
Jacqueline and family

Shirley, I am praying for you and the boys for comfort in your loss. After working with a family for 18 years you feel as if you know them well. I knew Sonny to be an honest, hard working and dedicated man. I learned much from him not only about the furniture business but about business in general. I will always miss the "old days" at Hurst-Sexton and enjoyed selling fine furniture with him. Rest in peace, Sonny.

Shirley (Mom)
I have been reflecting on your loss and realised that next to Dad and probably Coach Way, I spent the most time growing up around Sonny. This was of course due to the fact that I was often at your house and eating your wonderful cooking. With this in mind I learned a lot from Sonny, much of it from how he carried himself and wanted to share with you those learnings in no particular order.
• Always say please.
• Always say thank you.
• Family is the most important thing in our life.
• Friends and community are also important. We must work to develop and maintain both.
• You can say A LOT with few words.
• Hold the door open for a woman unless she specifies otherwise.
• Always ask about another person’s family.
• Raising one’s voice rarely leads to a positive outcome.
• You are never too old to learn.
• I don’t have to agree with you to like you.
• EVERYONE deserves respect.
I am sorry I can not be there to give you a hug, but know that I feel your loss and am thinking of you, Todd, Keith, Kevin and Stuart.
Love,
Erik (#5)
