Obituary of Doreen A. Corley

Doreen A. Corley 91, of Sumter, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on Tuesday December 13, 2022 at her home.
Born in Decatur, Illinois in 1931, she was the daughter of the late Everett H. and Bertelle (Betty) Sutton.
She graduated from the public schools of Decatur. She married Richard T. “Dick” Corley in 1951 and followed him to seminary. She joined Dick on missionary journeys to Iran beginning in 1955, and later to the Philippines and Turkey for over 50 years of service.
Her family was of upmost importance to her through the years and she was proud of each of her four children. She loved to read, travel, and have friends and family over for a meal. In her sixties, she completed a Masters degree from Columbia International University. In 2012, she wrote a book about her wonderful memories in Iran titled “To Persia, With Love”. She was an active and faithful member of the Fellowship Community Church in Columbia and more recently Harmony Church in Sumter.
Survivors include two sons, Steven (Ginny) of Sumter and Timothy (Tammie) of Cudjoe Key, Florida, and a daughter Ruth Foreman (Brad) of Turkey; eight grandchildren, Helen Vineyard (James), Matthew, Daniel, Andrew, Joseph, John Corley and Rebecca and Melissa Foreman, and five great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard (Dick); a son, David Corley; and two sisters, Jackie Porter and Patricia Garrett.
The family would like to express thanks to the wonderful caregivers, Rosa Jenkins, Sally Benbow, and Mary Mcknight during the last few months.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
