Dear Cricket and Ernie,
I loved your mother so much. You should be so proud of her and the life she lived. She got me involved with the museum 20 or so years ago and it has been quite rewarding for me. I myself try to be more like her when it comes to being civic minded and dedicated to doing for others more than herself. I’m sorry I could not make it to her memorial today but my thoughts are with you and your family.

Condolences and prayers, for Colleen's family. Her passing will leave a void, not only in the family, but in our neighborhood and community, as well. She was a force to be reckoned with and she touched many lives, in her efforts to preserve our historic district.

Coleen. What joy she brought to my life. I’ve only know her for the past five or so years but I had definitely heard of her. She was a true friend who told me stories about her family and always expressed her love for Bubba and her children. We had lunch together almost every day for months before she moved to Mount Pleasant and I will never forget our talks. Her first question was always, “What’s the news?”. She loved the Forum and was proud of all of the groups accomplishments.
Her favorite things were good conversation, cheap wine and junkin and she enjoyed each as often as possible.
I will miss my friend and I will hold her memory dear.
I will also keep a small piece of green paper that she gave me that speaks of her life. And it is as follows:
When I stand before God at the
end of my life I would hope
that I would have not a single
bit of talent left and could say,
“I used everything
you gave me.”

Love you my friend.

Dear Cricket and Ernie:
Colleen was such an inspiration! I remember from an early age my parents talking about Colleen being such a strong, intelligent, articulate, amazing woman! She was such a trailblazer in many ways - I remember thinking that I wanted to be like her. My Mom also treasured her friendship and they shared so much together over so many years. After my Mom passed, it was such a privilege to have Colleen come visit on a beach trip with me, sister Sally and cousins Randall and Nancy. Colleen filled in some spaces for us regarding all our parents and grandparents, and we laughed and cried and just had such a great time together. What a special woman. She will be missed. Blessings to the entire family.
Sending love,
Jane McGregor

Dear Ernie & Cricket,
I am sorry to read of your Mother's death. I have lots of fond memories of both of your parents from Sumter and Santee. They were good friends with my parents, James & Patsy Beaty. Daddy died last June at 92. He and your Mother must have gone to school together. Your Daddy called me a bride every time I saw him, until I had a baby! I send prayers and love to you both in he death of your Mom. Losing parents is hard, no matter the circumstances.

We send our Love and Prayers to all of the family in memory of a remarkable woman! She was larger than life, touching so many lives in a positive way. What a great, forever friend since 1985. So honored to have known her and know she’s looking down on all of us, still influencing how we behave. Rest in peace for a life well done.

Q: What was one of your favorite qualities of Colleen?
A: I never had a conversation with Colleen that helping others was not a part of. I spent a day with her a few weeks ago and we had a long conversation about how hard it is for many people right now and what we could do to help. I have never had a friend that was constantly worried about others like her. She was my idol. She loved to laugh and had a great sense of humor. Loved to entertain people and her door was always open for a visitor. She was very thrifty and loved getting a deal on anything. My favorite story was when she bought a $10 dress at a thrift store and wore it to her granddaughter’s wedding in Washington, DC. It was a beautiful dress and she was so proud of the price she paid. I have loved her since we met and treasure the many times we talked over a glass of wine. Her heart was filled with love for her husband and children and her grandchildren were very precious to her. I will miss her greatly.
