Obituary of Orland Dale Harkins

Orland Dale Harkins, 82, died Monday, March 6, 2023 at Covenant Place. Born February 11, 1941, in Kanawha County, Charleston, WVA, he was a son of the late Lonnie L. Harkins and Ruth Spradling Harkins. Mr. Harkins was a member of Grace Christian Fellowship Church in Manning, SC. He was President/Owner of Harkins Moving & Storage Company in Sumter until his retirement in January 2006. He was a Mason, an active member of the Omar Shrine Temple, Mt. Pleasant, SC, active member and past captain of the Omar Color Guard, a member of the Royal Order of Jesters Court 113, Charleston, SC, past President of the SLC Shrine Club, presently Gamecock Shrine Club, Sumter, SC, Helping Hands, and an active member of the Billikins Social Club of Santee. He was also an active member and Vice President of the Santee Shrine Club. He was past President of the SC Movers Association, Columbia, SC, past President of the National Defense Transportation Assoc., Sumter, SC, past member of Sumter Elks Lodge BPOE 855, Sumter, SC, past President of Crimestoppers, Sumter, SC, past member of the Greater Sumter Chamber of Commerce and past Chairman of the Ambassadors Club. He was a U. S. Marine Corps Vietnam veteran. Surviving are a step-daughter, Dawn Hodges (Chris) of Summerton, SC; a step-son, Trey Hatfield of Spartanburg, SC; one brother, Adrian Lee Harkins (Donna) of Hurricane, WVA; 3 grandchildren, Hunter Hodges (Hillary), Madison Browder, Katelyn Covington (Hunter), and one great-grandchild, Ella Jane Covington. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Carol Gene Harkins and Shirley Harry Harkins. Graveside services will be held at 1 P.M. Saturday at the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Michael Murdock officiating and with military honors. The family will receive friends from 12:30 P.M. to 1 P.M. Saturday prior to the service at the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
