Obituary of Johnny Joseph Riles, Jr.

Johnny Joseph Riles, Jr., 73, died Thursday, August 31, 2023, at his home in Rock Hill, SC. Born August 18, 1950, in Sumter, SC, he was the son of the late Johnnie Joseph Riles, Sr., and Pearl Wingate Riles. He was a Retired Firefighter with the City of Sumter Fire Department, Past Commander of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, Past trustee of Sumter Elks Lodge and a Mason. He attended Walker’s Chapel Freewill Baptist Church. He is survived by two daughters; Kimberly Lynn Oliver (Chris) of Rock Hill and Jennifer Marie Geddings (Nick) of Sumter; four grandchildren, Tyler Riles (Catherine), Khalea Oliver (Jordan), Furman Geddings, Jr. (Amber), and Christopher Geddings, eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Glenn Riles (Joyce) of Sumter, and a lifelong friend, Linda Thomas of Sumter. He was preceded in death by a brother, Milburn Riles and four sisters, Willie Mae Barwick, Evelyn Harris, Mary Barfield, and Joyce Ashcraft. Funeral Services will be held at 11 A.M. Monday in the Chapel of Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with Rev. Nat Brown and Rev. Sammy Geddings officiating. Burial will follow in the Sumter Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3 P.M. to 5 P.M. Sunday at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home.
