Praying for you and your family. 2nd CORINTHIANS 5 and 8 says TO BE ABSENT FROM THE BODY IS TO BE PRESENT WITH THE LORD!!! This scripture has been a source of strength and comfort to me during my time of bereavement. Praying that it will be the same for you all as well.

I was sorry to hear of Shirley's passing. She was a lovely person. We were both in garden club and Jr. Welfare League. May your good memories sustain you at this time of loss.

Todd, Stuart, Keith and Kevin.
I have been struggling with what to write about Mom. In Jr. High and High School, I called her Mrs. Hurst. I remember going off to University and calling her "Momma Hurst" once to which she quickly responded with, "Just Mom is fine." From that day on, I was proud to be called #5.
Next to my own mother and older sister, she was the most important woman in my life during the formative years. She could have quickly dismissed me as I was from the other end of Mattison Avenue, but that was not her style. Shirley made it clear early on that as long as I was respectful around her and took off my shoes in the house I was welcome any time. Her lesson of treat others as you would like to be treated has served me well in life.
My memories of Mom including her amazing food, her love of German shepherds and dressing nicely to tend to her garden. Once I moved overseas I made it a point to pay her a visit every time I was home. I even made sure she spent time with my girlfriend at the time Sharon, before asking her to marry me.
As an adult, I also came to appreciate Shirley had a good sense of humor coupled with a wonderful yet contained laugh. I wonder how many others saw this side of her.
I am sorry I can not make it for the funeral. The world is definitely a little less gracious and classy with her departure. I will keep all of you in my prayers and I hope you four gentleman can take peace in the fact that she is reunited with Sonny.
Warmest Regards,
Erik

I am so sorry for your loss. Sonny and Shirley were such good friends and neighbors to my father, Sam Anderson.
I always enjoyed my conversations with them both. She was gracious and kind.
I know your many memories will be a comfort to you at this horrible time. Susan Anderson
