Obituary of Richard Buchanan Burns, Jr.

Richard Buchanan Burns, Jr., 71, died Monday, March 18, 2024, at his home. Born in Sumter, he was a son of the late Richard Buchanan Burns and Emily Rowland Burns. Mr. Burns was a member, deacon and elder of Wedgefield Presbyterian Church. He was a graduate of The Citadel and was owner and operator of Burns Engineers. Surviving are three brothers, Alwin Burns of Sumter, Claude Burns (Ellen) of Summerville and Charlie Burns (Marian) of Sumter and a number of nieces and nephews. Memorial Services will be held at 12 Noon Thursday, March 21, 2024, at Wedgefield Presbyterian Church with Rev. Jody Foster and Rev. Blake Jenkins officiating. Private graveside services will be held in the Sumter Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 P.M. to 7 P.M. Wednesday at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home.
