Obituary of Tessie Geddings

Tessie Avins Geddings, 91, widow of John Amos Geddings, Jr., died Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital. Born in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Ernest Avins and Nora Ardis Avins. Mrs. Geddings was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene and was retired from Campbell Soup Company. Surviving are two sons, Gerald “Jerry” Thomas Geddings and John Alan Geddings (Dianne); one sister, Denise Mortimer; two brothers, Ernest Avins (Dale) and Richard “Ricky” Avins (Lisa); two grandchildren, Jackie Sparks (Tony), Jon Geddings (Toni); three great-grandchildren, Tres Gilbreath, Tate Gilbreath (Jordan), Eli Geddings; one great-great-grandchild, Lincoln Gilbreath; two step-grandchildren, Casey Morgan (Richard), Travis McCoy (Jessica); one step-great-grandchild, Cooper McCoy and a sister-in-law, Penny Avins. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Marie Griffin, Mary Geddings, Jeannie Gable, and a brother, Jim Avins. Graveside services will be held at 10 A.M. Friday in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Greg Pressley officiating. The family will receive friends following the graveside service.
