Obituary of Eva Carmel Riggs

Eva Carmel Riggs, 91, widow of William Paul Riggs, died Thursday, September 26, 2024, at her home. Born June 28, 1933, in Stella, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Augustus E. Godwin and Hazel Ophelia Poole Godwin. She was a member of New Calvary Baptist Church. Surviving are three sons, Don Riggs (Ellie), Tom Riggs (Marsha), Steve Riggs (Beverly) all of Sumter; nine grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren; and one brother, Bobby Godwin (Pat) of Newport, North Carolina. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and five sisters. A celebration of life service will be held at 3 P.M. Sunday, September 29, 2024, in the chapel of the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. David Richardson and Rev. Ron Underwood officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 P.M. to 3 P.M. Sunday at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at her home. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Kershaw Baptist Association Disaster Relief Program, 14 E. DeKalb Street, Camden, SC 29020.
