Shortly after Sharon and I moved to Sumter a little over five years ago, Avis rode her little wheelie cart down the road to our home to bring us new kids on the block an amazing blueberry cake that she had just baked. She apologized that it was so late, as we had lived here all of a week. That this sweet lady would be so kind to go out of her way--on a day that she wasn't feeling so good--to extend a warm welcome to us meant the world to us. When we met her, we felt as if we had known her all our lives. As time went on, Avis was always concerned for Sharon's Mum and our well-being in the midst of her own issues. We could see that she displayed the same caring and warmth with all those in her life. We'll really miss her. The world will be a little less beautiful without her.
