Obituary of Walter Lanton McCloud

Walter Lanton McCloud, 88, widower of Vernie Ruth Hill McCloud, died Saturday, October 26, 2024, at Prisma Health Richland Hospital in Columbia. Born, October 9, 1936, in Fish Spring, TN. He was the son of the late Walter Preston McCloud and Lillie Oliveen McQueen McCloud. He was retired civil service, a US Air Force Veteran, a member of Sumter First Pentecostal Holiness Church and attended Boulevard Holiness Church. He is survived by two sons, Glenn McCloud (Patti), Dwayne McCloud (Carrie); three sisters, Rachel Phipps (Louie) of Elizabethton, TN, Jo Hall (Jim) of Pontiac, MI, Angelee White (Paul) of Gray, TN; grandchildren, Brian McCloud (Brook) of Rock Hill, Kathryn Thomas (James) of Durham, NC, Preston McCloud (Courtney) of Charlotte, NC, Jessica Turner (Pierce) of Pamplico, Matthew McCloud of Charleston; and several great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and four siblings. A funeral service will be held at 12 PM Thursday, at Sumter First Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. Brett Gardner and Rev. Clyde Chan Officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends 11 AM - 12 PM Thursday at Sumter First Pentecostal Holiness Church and other times at his home.
