Obituary of Brenda Kay Smith Harkins

Brenda Kay Smith Harkins, 77, died, Tuesday, December 24, 2024, at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital. Born in Spartanburg, SC, she was the daughter of the late Howard Pinckney Smith and Rillie Anne Harrelson Smith Lee. She retired from Sumter Coatings, Inc. after 24 years of service and prior to that was employed with Southern Coatings, Inc. for 19 years. Survivors include two daughters, Dawn Hodges (Chris) and Tara Browder; one son, Trey Hatfield; a sister, Eula Lee S. Jones; three grandchildren, Hunter Hodges (Hillary), Madison Browder and Katelyn Covington (Hunter); two great-grandchildren, Ella Jane Covington and Hunter Heath Hodges, and a number of nieces nephews as well as very special family members, that were a huge part of her life and gave her much joy, Makenzie Scoggins Mathis (Ryan) and her children, Layton and Marley Ketchum and Layla and Adalyn Mathis. She was predeceased by a sister, Carolyn S. Scott (Clyde). Graveside services will be held at 2 PM Sunday, at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC. Pallbearers will be Trey Hatfield, Chris Hodges, Hunter Hodges, Hunter Covington and Johnathan Baxley. Honorary Pallbearers will be Joe Mason and Barry Reynolds.
