Celeste Turbeville Rivers, 85, wife of Porter Rivers, Jr., died Monday, November 7, 2016, at the home of her son and daughter-in-law in Columbia.
Born in Turbeville, SC, she was a daughter of the late Daniel Eugene Turbeville and Ethel Durden Turbeville.
Mrs. Rivers was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of Winthrop College. She was a retired law office administrator with the Bryan Law Firm with 30 years of service and was a member and officer of the Business & Professional Women’s Club.
Surviving are her husband of Sumter; two sons, Porter “Rocky” Rivers III and wife Lisa Givens of Columbia, Mark T. Rivers and life partner Brian Sisley of Atlanta, GA; a sister, Sylvia Moseley of Sumter; two grandchildren, Porter “Dusty” Rivers IV and Shelby A. Rivers.
She was preceded in death by seven siblings. Ethel Durden (Turbeville) Anderson, Nell Turbeville, Daniel E. Turbeville, Jr., Joanna (Turbeville) Keels, Clemence Durden Turbeville, Marjorie (Turbeville) Thrasher, and John Furman Turbeville.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 P.M. Friday in the Chapel of the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with her nieces, Rev. Kay Keels, and Rev. Diane Moseley officiating.
Pallbearers will be extended family members, Key Thrasher, Mike Thrasher, Will Thrasher, Bruce Moseley, Mark Moseley, and Larry Barker.
Burial will be in the Sumter Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 P.M. Friday at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home.
