Obituary of Kathryn Gentry Westbury

Kathryn Gentry Westbury, 87, wife of Thomas James (Jimmy) Westbury, Jr., died Friday, February 16, 2018, at Covenant Place.

 

Born in Portsmouth VA, a daughter of the late Stephen Luther and Mary Gibson Gentry, Kathryn grew up in Sumter until relocating to Charlottesville VA, where she and Jimmy lived for 60 years.  She graduated from Edmunds High School in Sumter and from Agnes Scott College in Decatur, GA.  A former school teacher, she taught in Sumter, Atlanta and Charlottesville.  She was a life member of the Monticello Garden Club in Charlottesville and served as president and in various other positions.  She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Charlottesville.  

 

In addition to her husband of Sumter, she is survived by three sisters, Mary Ann Gentry Cook of Yardley, PA, Elizabeth (Bibba) Gentry Carter of Prosperity, SC, Helen Gentry Stein of Miami, FL and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 24, at 3 PM at Covenant Place, 2825 Carter Rd., Sumter SC.  Dr. Reginald Thackston will officiate.

 

Burial will be private in Sumter Cemetery.
