Millie and Family,
My condolences on the passing on Stanley. Stanley was a football coach on a YMCA football team (Fort Roofing) that I was a member of back when I was about 12. I can still picture him pulling up in his white Oldsmobile Cutlass with his long hair and a big smile on his face. He was loved by all of the kids, and will always be remembered as the 'original cool guy' in Sumter. I kept in touch with Stanley after moving out of S.C. almost 30 years ago. I would always go by the shop to say hello, and of course, given Stanley's true gift of salesmanship would almost always leave with a new suit or shirt. Ironically, I still have a couple of suits and shirts which are still in the bags that Stanley put them in, which have never been worn. It was just too hard to say no to Stanley when he walked out with that big grin and the new suite he picked out just for you. Stanley was a true gentleman and a consummate people person who touched many lives along his journey. Sumter has lost an iconic figure and he will be missed. Prayers for you and your family.

I want to send my condolences to the Welch family. I remember buying a pair of slacks from Mr. Welch, and he made my experience one of me feeling good and looking good about my purchases. He was very kind and I'll remember that about him. May God give his family the grace they need.

Among the worst things about growing old is the loss of those irreplaceable friends who added richness and depth to your life. He never worked a day in his life because he loved what he did. He was a complete man. We are all going to miss him. Strong prayers and much love to Millie, the girls, and the rest of the family.

I am so sorry for your loss. May God comfort your mourning hearts. I pray that you find comfort in
Revelation 21:3-5. This scripture paints a picture of a world that is very different from what we see today. A world with no more sickness, pain or death...and it is not a dream, it is a promise from God. He promises to reverse the effects of death and resurrect your precious one. You will never have to say a painful goodbye ever again!

I am so sorry to hear of Stanley's passing. He was a good man, a cut above most people we encounter in this journey. Having lived life from various perspectives, the lows having been achieved by my own volition and causing great pain to both family and friends, trips back home afterward were always filled with great shame. Stanley was the first person who reached out to me to let me know that he viewed the past as the past and something no one, not even God, could change,. He told me that all he could see was the person standing in front of him at that moment. This was at a piano recital at Trinity Church where I had come to hear Lizzy play. He asked me to come by to see him the next time I was in town, and I did. He made me feel whole again. Were it not for the nonjudgment and forgiveness granted and the seeds of proactive behavior planted by Stanley, Frank, Leighton, and Lauren Booth, my willingness to get back in the saddle and ride again would most likely have never happened.
Stanley had what I would describe as a genteel walk about him. He was never "too good" for anybody, nor did he view himself as "being above" anybody. Stanley was one of those real people whose paths you have the pleasure of crossing only six or seven times in your life. He could just as easily talk with the Queen of England or a homeless person on the street without ever losing his "Stanliness." He never blew smoke up anyone's rear end in false praise, nor criticized anyone unjustly. I always marveled at how Stanley could pick up on the subtle hues and colors in fabric and mix and match them into incredible combinations of good taste. I think it was perhaps because he understood that a thread runs through all things. His ability to see beyond the surface in clothes was minor compared to his ability to understand the tapestry in which all of our lives are woven. Stanley was a master at seeing and knowing the weave in this tapestry called life. He will be missed by many.
My condolences to Millie and the girls and to all members of the Welch and Jones families as you journey through these difficult times. Thoughts and prayers are with you all.
