Laura Lee Young Wotring, 53, passed away Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

 

Born June 22, 1965 at Moody Air Force Base in Valdosta, GA, she was a daughter of Gabrielle A. Carraway Young Turnmeyer and the late USAF Major Barclay Bingham Young.

 

Mrs. Wotring was a member of the First Church of God.  She graduated from Winthrop University in Rock Hill, SC, Trident College of Charleston in Charleston, SC and attended the University of South Carolina.

 

Laura was well known and highly respected throughout the community for her architectural drafting and drawings.  She designed commercial and residential structures for Thompson-Turner Construction and Hawkins and Kolb Construction among others.  Some of her proudest accomplishments were designing the Patriot Park Sports Complex in Sumter and her work on the new Thompson Corporate office on Main Street.

 

She was employed as an Architectural Technician at Drakeford Architects for 13 years and as a Construction Manager for Sumter (Tandem) Family Health of Sumter.

 

She is survived by her husband of 22 years, Michael Wayne Wotring and a daughter, Sarah Donager Wotring both of Sumter; a son, Walt Wilson (Tabitha),her mother, Gabrielle Young Turnmeyer and her beloved step-father, Richard Turnmeyer of Sumter;  grandchildren, Nataley and McKenzie all of Rutland, VT.; a sister, Cynthia G. Young Dodworth (David), niece, Shannon and nephew, Scott all of Yorktown, VA; a brother, Barclay B. Young (Jodel) of Old Saybrook CT; her lifelong friend, Patricia Polen of Hampton, VA. 

 

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Manton White Carraway, Evelyn White Carraway Blackwell and step-grandfather, Herbert L. Blackwell; paternal grandparents, Ralph Alvin Young and Emeline Curran Young

 

Her hobbies included crocheting, most recently mermaid tails for her friends and family, going to all the latest concerts and spending time with family and friends.

 

Memorial services will be held Sunday, January 27, 2019, at 3 P.M. at the First Church of God with Rev. Ron Bower officiating.

 

The family will receive friends from 2 P.M. to 3 P.M. prior to the service at the church.
