Obituary of Elizabeth Graham

Elizabeth (Betty) Robertson Hayslip Graham gave up her fight for life in her home in Sumter at the age of 99 on February 23, 2020. She was born to Leland and Verna Hayslip February 1, 1921 in Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania. Betty married Michael W Graham of Manning, South Carolina in 1946. They traveled the world together while Colonel Graham served in the Army. She gave birth to and is survived by six children: Paul Graham of Sumter, South Carolina, Roger Graham (Lucille) of Ocean City, New Jersey, Suzanne Selden (John) of Tacoma, Washington, Richard Graham of Euless, Texas, Christopher Graham (Jamie) of Richmond, Virginia and Michael A Graham (Renee) of Chapin, South Carolina. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Betty was predeceased by her loving husband in 2005. Betty was truly the “capable” wife and mother of Proverbs 31. She was valued for her creativity, adventurous spirit and social skills. Her involvements outside of the family included church (Westminster Presbyterian), where she devoted many hours to several local care facilities through Westminster’s outreach mission. She was also active in the Circle of Joy and The Cornerstone Sunday School class. She was a former member of the Sumter Christian Women’s Club, cub scouts and Eastern Star (serving as Past Worthy Matron). She remained pleasant and grateful through nearly a year of declining health. She left a legacy of love and gratitude. In her words, “All is well!” The family will receive friends from 11 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. Friday at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home.
