Steve was the first to offer me a union membership card when I went to work for General Telephone in 1968 - he was president of Local 1431 at the time. Over the years we not only worked on telephone problems together but like him I became an officer of the local and much of the knowledge and inspiration I gained about what to do came from him, including serving several times together on negotiating committees. He was devoted to the welfare of others, and thankfully after we retired it was a pleasure to see him at many of the retirees' luncheons. He will be sorely missed. Leonard Garneau
