Obituary of John DeLeon Moïse

On March 17, 2022, John DeLeon Moïse, beloved husband, father, brother, nephew, and cousin passed away at the age of 65, after an extended battle with cancer. He was born on December 7, 1956, in Sumter, SC and attended Darlington High School in Rome, GA, where he graduated with honors. While there, he was active in wrestling and tennis. He was very proud of achieving the rank of Eagle Scout and the Order of the Arrow.
John received his BS in Business Administration from the College of Charleston in 1979. During his time there, he competed in national springboard competitions, was an intramural champion in racquetball, and was a proud member of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity. After college, he had a successful career in Kansas City, MO as Midwest Sales Manager of medical diagnostics with Bayer and Siemens.
John had a lifelong passion for physical fitness and sports. He loved golf, tennis, sailing, and camping. He also ran in half-marathons and half-triathlons.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Dr. Davis D. Moïse and Emily Cribb Moïse, and his older sister, Sally Moïse. He is survived by his loving family, including his wife, Diane, her daughter Rachel Marquez, son Gabriel Marquez, and grandchild Trinton, all of Kansas City, MO; his four Moïse sons and their wives, Taylor (Chelsey) of Charlotte; Preston Scott (Colby) of Charlotte; Will (fiancé Gabriella Inzerillo) of Wilmington, NC; John Ross (Katie) of Hilton Head, SC; and two brothers, Davis (Dee) Moïse Jr. of Columbia, SC, and Marc Moïse (Connie) of Irvine, CA, as well as numerous extended family members.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Donna and Bert Rosefield (John’s cousin) for their help and assistance.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, March 25, 2022, at 1:30 PM at the Sumter Hebrew Cemetery, 700 West Oakland Avenue, Sumter, SC.
