Obituary of Arthur Herbert Gilbert

Arthur Herbert Gilbert, 67, of Falls Church, Virginia, died Friday, October 13, 2023, in Arlington, Virginia, following a struggle with esophageal cancer. Arthur was a child of the late Katherine Armida Jennings Gilbert and Joseph Gatliff Gilbert. Arthur grew up in Sumter and attended the University of South Carolina. He enjoyed corresponding with his SC relatives. Arthur was employed by United Air Temp, of Lorton, Virginia, and will be missed by his colleagues. His friends describe him as an avid diner, a great listener, and lifelong devotee of comics, especially the Silver Age. He was a self-published graphic artist and had a strong hobbyist interest in music and film. Arthur is survived by his siblings Armida Jennings Gilbert, of Georgia, Katherine Gilbert, and Robert Gilbert, and numerous cousins. Arthur will be buried by private ceremony in the Sumter Jewish Cemetery, alongside his parents.
