Obituary of Richard "Dick" Lee
Richard “Dick” Smyth Lee, 81, husband of Rebecca “Becky” Greene Lee, died Tuesday, August 29, 2017.
Born November 19, 1935, in Sumter, he was a son of the late Washington Loring Lee, Jr. and Elizabeth Smyth Lee.
Mr. Lee was a member of the Church of the Holy Comforter where he served as a former Senior Warden of the Vestry. He was a graduate of Clemson University where he was a member of the Jungleers Jazz Band. He was a U. S. Army Reserve veteran. He was a former President of the Sumter Rotary Club, former member of Sumter County Council and a former member of the Sumter Jaycees. He was a former member of the Sumter Community Concert Band.
Dick loved his God, his family, spending time at Edisto Beach, and his beloved home, Millwood Plantation. He was the former owner of Lee & Associates Insurance Company.
Surviving are his wife of Sumter; one son, Richie Lee of Greenville; six daughters, Tricia Agan (Jimmy) of Atlanta, GA, Elizabeth Shealy (Lance) of Hickory, NC, Mary Loring Pait (Ben) of Charleston; Sarah Barrett (Daniel) of Costa Rica; Becca Thome of Charleston; Anne Pressman (Scott) of Atlanta, GA; one brother, W. Loring Lee, III (Kay) of Sumter; one sister, Elizabeth “Bet” Girardeau (Ted) of Aiken; 16 grandchildren, Sarah Elizabeth, Caroline, Patrick, and Abby Agan; Derrick, Briggs, Braden, and Gadsden Shealy; Covey and Harrison Pait; Thomas, Jacob, and Micah Barrett; Anna Thome; Ellie and Myer Pressman.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 A.M. Friday at the Church of the Holy Comforter with Rev. Marcus Kaiser, Rev. John Sosnowski, and the Very Rev. John Barr officiating.
Burial will follow in the Sumter Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Edward Girardeau, John Girardeau, Robert Girardeau, Phil Palmer, Louis Jackson, Matt Fishburne, Grainger McKoy, Mack Kolb, Larry Kirven, Dr. Warren Smith, Earle Rowland, and Baron Holmes.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Dick’s Small Group at Holy Comforter and his godchildren.
The family will receive friends at the home, 1805 Loring Mill Road from 5 P.M. to 7 P.M. Thursday.
